Biography
Alexander Hamilton (c. 1755 or 1757 – 1804) was a Caribbean-born American revolutionary, military commander, statesman, and foremost Founding Father of the United States. Serving as senior aide-de-camp to General George Washington during the Revolutionary War, Hamilton demonstrated an exceptional grasp of military logistics, political theory, and constitutional law. As the first Secretary of the Treasury in Washington's cabinet, he spearheaded the establishment of the American financial system, founded the Bank of the United States, established the United States Mint, and created the Revenue Marine, which later became the Coast Guard. Hamilton is renowned as the primary author and driving force behind The Federalist Papers, penning 51 of the 85 essays alongside James Madison and John Jay to champion the ratification of the United States Constitution. His vigorous defense of an energetic national executive, independent judiciary, and robust commercial economy fundamentally shaped modern American governance before his life was tragically cut short in an infamous duel with Vice President Aaron Burr.
